Break, VoD, and SCDA

Carolina opens their college basketball season tomorrow in the pre-season NIT against Sacred Heart (a.k.a. the losers).  They defeated Pfieffer yesterday by a suprisingly high scoring game of 140-101.  Although they won by 39 points, they led by as many as 55 and allowed Pfieffer to score 66 second half points, which is unacceptable.  The second half score was 70-66, good enough to account for most college games.  Anyway, there's a lot to be excited about for UNC fans this season.  I expect us to win most all of our ACC games including a sweep of Dook.

While I'm on sports, I read a hilarious article about Notre Dame.  I hate them.  Especially considering the fact that, by some fraud, they're ranked in the top 10.  I'm sorry, but if you play Army, Navy, Air Force, and UNC in the same season, that ought to automatically prohibit you from being in the top 10.  As I heard an ESPN commentator say, "Why don't they just throw Temple in there while they're at it!"  Here's the article.  DJ Gallo rips Weiss a new one for some comments he made about the polls.

I haven't played Halo since Thursday and it hasn't bothered me much at all.  I slept just fine last night. ;)  On the other hand, I've been watching VoD, mostly FB games but also ones from XiT, Str8 Rippin, and Carbon.  I've noticed so many things that I should be doing and need to do that I feel confident in my potential to improve after a nice break.  A lot of things surprised me, too.  The pro teams don't seem to run much of a set up.  It's more of a moving, dynamic offense with great communication.  I watched an oddball game on Midship from Ogre 1's POV, and they basically moved the ball everywhere whereas I think 2o2pers have a tendency to keep it bottom base and fend off opponents traveling across the map.  Also, maybe FB was out of practice, but their BRs were pretty bad at times, which shocked me.  I wish I could pull a few clips from the games I watched because it sometimes looked like I was watching myself play. :D  What else?  I saw some crazy straffing patterns, players jumping up and down underneath platforms on Wizard and uncrouching to shoot themselves back down quickly.  They all looked very effective.  Oh yeah, I'm also going to switch to boxer settings because I'm tired of losing the close quarters battles.

I'm enjoying the campaign on Splinter Cell: Double Agent.  At times I get so impatient with sneaking around and taking out guys one at a time that I just get out my gun and open fire.  It's natural after years of Halo.  I suppose that'll work on easy mode but not on the more difficult ones.  I still haven't made it out of Iceland (1st mission), but then again I didn't had much time to play over the weekend.

That's it for now.

I'd like to find some of those vids if you have some details on them, sound very interesting. I like the boxer style except I miss the death stickies I used to get with default, really most my nades were better. It helps though I've had people much better than me get pissed cuz I beat them down. One guy even changed to claw cuz he was so pissed. If I could get my timing down to melee earlier then I could really piss some off, oh well. Nice to here your "break" is goin well, have a great week! :)

The only way you can get those vids (legally) is to subscribe to VoD over at MLGpro.com. Right now it's $20 and you get a free t-shirt, but the season ends this year, so you'd have to buy another subscription in January, probably for $30 or more. Yeah, playing with most the people here, you get too used to who you can (or can't) beat and what style you should use on them. For example, I know not to get close to Bioslayer because he'll probably beat me down or just BXR me, so I try to keep him at a distance, use cover, and get some team fire on him (of course, that's good practice with anyone, really). Else if I let him get close, I'd better have sword or shotgun in my pocket or I'm going to be watching the respawn screen. But you can't play just anyone like that because you don't know what their strengths are. That's been one of my problems lately, and I need to develop a more solid style and balance between close and mid range tactics. Another problem is just plain teamwork, and I'll be working on that, too. Watching my vids, I see that I'm alone a lot. I need to stick somewhat near teammates so I can easily concentrate fire or pick up opponents that they may have weakened.
