Halo, Wife, and Gameplays

So lately I've stayed up a little later than I should while playing Halo. I'll make a point to log off of XBL no later than 12:30 AM since I can still get over 6 hours of sleep, which is plenty for me. Anyway, last night we were eating dinner, and I asked my wife what we were doing that night. Out of the blue she coldly says, "I don't know, you'll probably be asleep by 9:30 PM."

Here's some background: Monday night I went to bed earlier than my wife, sometime before 11 PM. This is the token time I've gone to bed before her because I was tired. Naturally she assumes that I went to bed because I was so tired from playing Halo. My non-Halo nights are QT for us, and almost without exception, she falls asleep on the couch before I do.

So I respond to her, "Oh, so it's okay if you fall asleep early but it's not okay for me because I play Halo?"

"Pretty much."

WTF? I don't get it. Apparently I can't ever go to bed early on a non-Halo night. Anyway, last night we were watching South Park and she falls asleep on the couch before 10 PM. So I finished watching SP and then got on the laptop, rendered some vids, checked my email, etc. Around 11:30 I wake her up to go to bed. I tried to get her up 3 times. In between attempts to wake her up, I brush my teeth, change, etc. Finally she comes up and is upset because I'm already in bed. Women!

Don't get me wrong, this isn't a serious fight or anything, just her being annoyed that I play Halo. I'm sure most guys that play Halo have to deal with this stuff with their wife. What is it about Halo that upsets women so much? Men (and some women) love to shoot, nade, and fuck up some people on XBL. Get over it.

Anyway, Drost, Malice, Onslaught (long time friend of mine), and I played some double games the other night. I love doubles. Drost and Malice won a game on Midship and we won one on Lockout. They were fun games so I thought I'd share them. The Lockout game is a bit boring at first but has some nice action in the second half. The Midship game is more intense and is decided in the last 2 seconds. Watch them if you're bored since they're probably only interesting to me. They're both about 215 MB.

Lockout game
Midship game

Enjoy.

That is why I play when my wife is at work (she works nights) just to avoid the issue.

yeah, I pretty much just play when the wife goes to bed, though I do get one "prime time" night a week. halo night replaced poker night.

Gotta love those marital tiffs. Me and teddybear have had similar arguements but we mostly laugh about it. I don't fuss about it like I used to. I think getting older has something to do with it. I am just up front and honest with him, I like to have him in bed with me when I go to bed. Call it insecurity. Sometimes he does and sometimes he doesn't and sometimes I fall asleep on the couch cause I want to be next to him. I used to ask him to lay down with me until I fell asleep and then he could get back up. That worked but then a lot of times he fell asleep and too. Meh.

Eh, it's not normally a problem. She's just worried about some other things and it's carried over to Halo a bit, I think. I get plenty of time in. :D

Its easy to blame things that you dont understand or relate to. It sounds like you really have a good insight on the problem ("other things"). I see it as an "out' for you and that your trying to work it in to least effect your family time. Others might see it as a waste as you should have tended to you honey doo list or whatever with the "extra time".

My lady is pretty good about Halo on the whole. I think the thing for her is that its kind of a new 'lounge' situation in that I am physically in the room with her but mentally I am completely somewherelse and with other people too. It must seems strange that I can't just pause it and give her my attention, but how can I when three of my buddies are gonna suffer at as a result? :-)
