Shared on Mon, 08/28/2006 - 08:12I finished my montage. It's not a glorious thing and requires some explanation before viewing. You will be allowed to download the tage after you read my explanation and take a short test....okay, that's a lie. You could just scroll down and click the link, but I recommend that you read what I have to say first.
I'm not Bioslayer. He's the editing king IMHO. Plus it helps that he's got like 300GB of raw game footage to choose from...footage that he's capped at 8Mbps. Some of my footage came from already rendered 1Mbps WMVs. So some of it's good and some of it's mediocre. He's also had a lot more practice at making tages and has become quite skilled at it. I'm not in his league as far as video skills. :(
The title of my tage is 'xmissions' (read like xfer because 'transmissions' was too long to fit on the screen at the size I wanted). The idea is that you're watching video from a weak signal or bad transmissions, and not, in fact, that I'm in love with Vegas' video effects. I wanted it to be a little edgy, so you'll see some really brief clip repeats, effects start and stop in the middle of clips, color change in clips, etc. It's not a traditional tage by any stretch, so I imagine there'll be some criticism for that.
Also, I created the bonus section with the hopes of recording the music for it myself. Unfortunately, Cakewalk's Music Creator didn't want me to do this since it flipped out whenever the fan on my laptop started (and it started every single time I recorded). Music Creator's made to use MIDI devices but I had my guitar cable plugged into an adapter that was plugged into the mic port on my sound card. Apparently that's bad for recording. Anyhow, I had already made the bonus clips and didn't want it to go to waste, so I used some Rage music instead.
My unbiased criticisms of my footage are that I use too many effects, I don't include enough multi-kills, the music sounds a bit muffled (I couldn't fix this and others have had this problem with Vegas), and the main part is a little brief. Nevertheless, it is what it is and I'm glad it's done. So, download it or don't. If you do and don't like it, PM me and tell me to suck it.
