Shared on Wed, 08/02/2006 - 12:14I found a very well-done article on the Chicago Tribune titled "Oil Safari." It's a sobering look at the journey of fuel from the oil deposits in Iraq, Nigeria, the Gulf, and Venezuela to a gas station in suburban Chicago. The author, Paul Salopek, interviews the gas station's employees, engineers aboard the Petronius, a drilling platform in the Gulf, soldiers in Iraq's Oil Protection Force, Nigeria's suffering natives, people in Venezuela, a congressman, and a wealthy Illinois couple.
I warn you, the article is very long - it's divided into 4 chapters. Please do not post comments unless you read the article in its entirety. Also, if you do post comments, let's please steer clear of politics. This article is about our oil addiction, its consequences, and the coming energy problems the world faces. Thanks.
EDIT: A PDF of the complete story can be downloaded here.
