Work, Game, and Online Storage

I create and maintain applications and databases for research studies.  At work, I often tell people that I make the wheels, I don't turn them.  That's necessary since others seem to think I'm also involved in the daily use of my applications instead of creating and updating them.  Lately, though, I've seemed to have become more involved in using them than I'd prefer.  We provide study information to an organization that gives us money to do studies since they appreciate knowing how we're spending their money.  The data have to be organized a certain way in order for them to put it into their system - so I made an exception and decided to format and send them the data.  And boy, was that a mistake.  Day by day, I'm being sucked into the goings-on of the study instead of simply managing the applications.  The organization got upset because there was some missing visit data (that our people are supposed to collect) and people on both sides were expecting that I'd find the data. No, no, no, no, no, no.  "I don't turn the wheels."  So now I'm charging the users with sending the reports.  Perhaps I'll write a PERL script that does it and make it a scheduled monthly task.  As a programmer, I'm inherently lazy...if I can get a computer to do it for me, why not?  Anyway, some of that shit got me upset this morning.

Moving on...

I did some great customs Sunday night with old and new friends.  I uploaded a nice oddball game on Lockout that's about 93MB and can be downloaded (left-click) here.  I'm becoming more comfortable with the double shot and pull it off a time or two in this game but also mess it up and accidentally reload at inopportune moments.  Still, it's a good game for me.  As always, comments/criticism appreciated.

Bioslayer and I use Box.net to store online files.  If I may, I'd like to recommend it to anyone that's interested in online storage for all your files.  They have free accounts for 1GB of storage (max file size 10MB) and 5GB of storage (limit 20GB bandwidth/mo) for $5/month and like 15GB for $10/mo.  If you're at all interested, the download speeds are excellent and the user interface is simple and convenient.  If you want to sign up or have questions, please PM me.  Thanks.

Sunday night's customs were a hell of a lot of fun. Attested to by the fact that I didn't get to bed until almost 0100 Monday morning. I'm looking forward to getting into some more MLG custom rooms in the near future. Work is often a bitch a people always want more. Where I work we our two business critical apps are both home grown and I am constantly getting emails when people encounter application errors. I'm a network admin and all I can do is make sure the DBs the apps are trying to hit are up and running. Anything else has to be sent to the devs. Unfortunately the devs aren't terribly responsive (they are a third party vendor, not in-house) so I get bombarded with problems that I have no way to solve. It doesn't matter how many time you tell the users either. I feel your pain.

But I am still just learing my way around vba. We mainly use access and store data on a sql server. Just thought I let you know I understand, trust me...
