I think Call of Duty 4 might offer everything I want in an online FPS. The action is fast, the weapons deadly, and the options seem limitless. Since I've started playing, I've encountered no lag, a crisp frame rate, and few, if any, total pricks. Granted, I've only logged 45 minutes, but it's my hope that these variables will remain constant. The game is a nice contrast to the multiplayer in the Halo series, which has always felt a bit slow to me. Maybe it's because COD4 has its roots in the PC domain, and they are used to catering to the twitchy, mouse and keyboard wielding seizure candidates that inhabit that dark place. Halo also tends to be bedazzled with Timmies. I appreciate Halo, but its never been at the top of my list of go-to games, so maybe I'm a bit biased. I'm enamored with the Battlefield series, and I can remember that some of my favorite moments in Battlefield 2: Modern Combat involved crawling through tall grass for several minutes just to get one good kill with the sniper kit. I guess I'm just prejudiced. Feel free to report me.

Speaking of Battlefield, I hope Bad Company can remove some of the bad taste left in my mouth by BF2:MC. As most would attest, the single player campaign was a bit boring and had the feel of "tacked on", as opposed to "designed specifically for". The multiplayer featured good maps and some solid gameplay, but a few elements could have been improved. First off, the EA servers were less than reliable. Lag and disconnects were a constant problem. Secondly, the whole medal structure was suspect. Most of them (for me at least) were damn hard to get. If you didn't get the medals, you couldn't advance in rank, which meant (at least during the time while I was playing it), that if you had a friend who was a higher rank than you, there were some games you couldn't play with him. Brilliant. Finally, the multiplayer matches sometimes devolved into a group of people medal hunting instead of trying to win the goddamn match. I remember one match in particular where 20 of the 24 players were snipers trying to get that sniper medal. So that match basically became a 2 vs 2 as the rest of us actually attempted to capture the control points.

Foolishly, I hope that 2142 will be released for the 360. Please feel free to dream the dream with me.

I find it so interesting that people are so crazy over COD4...it took me no time at all to do the campaign...and I don't find the MP stuff all that great. I miss being able to look around walls...oh how I long for Rainbow 6: Vegas II to come out!

I think the combination of "Run. Shoot. Repeat." appeals to a certain demographic, of which I am a member. :)
