Killzone 2 Multiplayer - Bells and Whistles!

Here are some things it has that people who don't yet own it might not know:

- Killzone multiplayer has very rich experience points / reward system.  The unlocks just keep coming!

-  KZ2 has 7 base classes (soldier, medic, engineer, tactician, assault, saboteur and scout) - each class has secondary abilities that can be unlocked.  You can unlock the ability to multi-class (combine abilities from one class with another).

-  KZ2 has 12 ranks from Private to General.  Each rank unlocks new weapons / skills / abilities and bonuses

- You can earn 23 ribbons in Killzone for completing certain tasks during a mission (i.e. killing 5 enemy players with a turret).  You can stack ribbons to unlock Medals.

- You can earn 26 different medals in KZ2.  Earning medals unlocks new weapons / skills / abilities and bonuses

- Warzone is digital crack.  The game cycles through 5 time based game modes (you can pick the time limits per mode and to include / not include maps and modes).  This happens on the fly - a mode will end and new one will begin - teams to go back to the spawn, no lobby pops up or anything you just get tossed into the next game mode and continue playing.  It is seamless and keeps the pace frantic and interesting.

- Ammo crates and mounted turrets can be repaired when you unlock the ability to do so (all turrets and ammo crates on the levels start out destroyed).  You don't start out carrying the maximum ammo or grenades that you can so having an ammo crate available to your team can really up the fire power your team can put out.  The mounted turrets are pure rape - they can shred the enemy and you can duck while using the turret to avoid being shot at.  These haven't been used enough online yet - but I think as more people discover the awesome power of these turrets they will be repairing and using them more and more.

- You can destroy enemy ammo crates and turrets and repair them so they become your teams property.

-  You can earn the ability to drop a spawn grenade (your team can only have 2 spawn grenades in play at any time).  Your spawn grenades can not be destroyed but are time based and send up colored smoke to let the enemy know where your spawn is at.

- Before you spawn you can cycle through the various spawn points and pick one that doesn't have much activity so you aren't being spawn raped (you see a little real time monitor display of the spawn locations as you cycle through them)

- You can revive downed team mates if you have your medic badge with your shock paddle.  Conversely you can kill enemy players using the shock paddle!

- Killzone 2 has full clan support.  You can add 60 players to your clan.  You can have an in game message of the day for your clan (also viewable from the web).  Your clan gets valor points (100 to start) which you wager against other teams or invest in tournaments - you attempt to win the wagered valor points in an attempt to climb the global clan leaderboard.  You can challenge other clans and they will be notified in game and can accept or decline your challenge.  If you are challenged or sign up for a tournament it will be populated in your clan events log.  The game will also send you a notification 15 minutes before that match that the server is up and you can jump into the match lobby to prepare from the match.  You can assign officers to your clan that can send and accept invites to the clan and can challenge and accept / decline challenges from other clans.

- Killzone 2 is played on dedicated servers (up to 32 players).

-  You can choose to join or start a squad on your team  Squads are groups of 2 - 4 people who work together to achieve goals.  Voice chat is proximity based in KZ2 except for your squad mates who can hear you regardless of location.  You can spawn on your squad leader - this helps keep your squad together and can be very strategic.  You can join and start squads at any time (press select while in game to bring up the scoreboard / squad options).

- You can unlock the ability to place turrets (only 4 turrets may be in play at a team per team)

- You can unlock the ability to build flying turrets (only 2 droids may be in play at a team per team)

- You can track your stats online at killzone.com - you can also view your clan stats and other peoples stats.  (killzone.com needs some bandwidth the thing is being hammered)

- You can watch a tactical overhead view of your matches or other players matches on killzone.com

- Every week the top 10% of the players get special colored ribbons as part of your rank.  Top 1% of players get a red ribbon, top 2 - 3% get purple, top 4 - 6% get black and top 7 - 10% get silver.

- You can view individual leaderboards as well as clan leaderboards at killzone.com

- Killzone 2 has a spectator mode (you can put a password on for spectators).

- You can create game modes (maps, cycles, rules, restrictions, number of players, passwords, spectators etc.) and save them.  So if you have a clan match you can start your predetermined clan match settings, if you have a body count only mode with no password and spectators only you can save that and re-call it at a later date).  This way you aren't always having to recreate the same server rules over and over - create it once and recall it whenever you need it for the insta-launch - sawweeeettt!!

I probably missed some things but you can see that KZ2 is really designed to be a very complete and fulfilling multiplayer experience.  It is not perfect (i.e. it lacks a party system?!?) but it is probably one of the most fleshed out MP experience available.

I have been on the fence about this game but after continually hearing about how good it is I may have to give it a try. I just wish the demo had been better, I thought it seemed like every other shooter I have played and the graphics didn't blow me away like everyone said they would.
