I think season 4 should be starting at some point this week (I’m hearing people believe it will be tomorrow which I guess is a regular update day for Blizzard). I’m sure after my 1 placement match I will be back in Bronze but hopefully my MMR is high enough that I’m not too far away from hitting Silver.
I’ve found with a turtled Terran that my relentless attacks at his wall is costing me more than it is costing him. So I’ve decided to start exploring some harassment with warp prisms on Terran players and so far it is has been really great. I figure the Terran player is building this wall at the front of his base and pooling his army up near that front wall / cliff in order to protect it. If I do a drop in the back of his base a number of things can happen. First is as simple as me killing SCV’s and maybe tech structures. If that’s all that is happening then I am hurting his economy and eventually the turtle will have to come out of his shell J Second is I might make him invest in some static defense like missile turrets – which again is more money he’s not putting into his army so it’s to my benefit. Third is that when I do the harass he pulls a lot or all of his army of the front wall as an over-reaction which means I can pound the front wall a lot safer and probably break through. It’s been an interesting experiment and one that has been working great for the most part so far – and more importantly it is really easy to transition into off 3 gate robo.
I have to remember to get my Observer out first and not be greedy and try and get the warp prism out first. Got into a game that was entirely too long (base race) and I was down to 1 pylon on the field when I won it – all because I didn’t get detection for cloaked Banshee’s in time. It was kind of funny and gave me a win versus a Silver player – but it was a lot of work which could have been avoided lol
I was getting pretty excited to try the type of late game play that I saw in Kiwikaki vs. Stephano where Kiwikaki gets a mothership and uses it almost exlusively for recalls (something I’ve never used MS for….until the end of the match when he busts out the Archon toilet). In HoTS the mothership has been removed but Protoss can now recall using the Nexas which isn’t as cool. As Day 9 discusses in his VOD of the Kiwikaki / Stephano match it would be great to have the MS at a soft expansion of your opponents – so that when you the battle and start taking damage that you recall to the soft expansion and keep laying waste J ahhhh well. Here’s that great match from the IPL 3. This is a really great match.
