A rarely talked about disease that affects a lot of families.  About 1 in 10 women suffer form postpartum depression. That’s 10%.  My wife was diagnosed with it last November.  It was a relief to know what was wrong with her, but it has been a hell of a rollercoaster ride ever sense.  She started out on 1 medication and they slowly up her dose over time, that med was not working out, so they changed her meds two weeks ago, cooled turkey.  What a ride we have been on ever sense.  While we are waiting for the new medication to build up in her system, the depression is back full force, suicidal thoughts and outbursts of rage.  Watching some one you love go through that kind of emotional pain is heart wrenching.  We both fear for her wellbeing. Thankfully I have a great employer who is letting me take as much time off right now as I need.

Good Luck, I can only imagine how frustrating this is for the both of you. Especially your wife and the feeling of helplessness and not being in control of your feelings and you for not knowing how to help.

She is REALLY lucky to have you. It sounds as if you understand that she can't help the way she is feeling. I understand what it feels like to have suicidal thougts, helplessness, hoplelessness, and know that my feelings aren't cause by the reality of my situation but by things in my body. I feel for her. I am stunned they switched medication cold turkey. Usually they gradually ween off of one, and at the same time build up the other. Her system must really be haywire right now. Good luck to both of you while try and get her managed. Remember that the feeling are real, whether or not they are logical. And don't forget to take care of yourself as well.
