It was the more creative option, 2. There was more of a demand for it 3. It would pay more sooner. ;; So I have now been a colourist for over 13 years, and I love it as much today as I did when I started. ;; The company I work for is called Notch (notch.ca), we are a Telecine only post production house, and all we do is comercials! ;; So what does a colourist do? ;; We colour correct, or colour grade film and video. ;; Film / Video is shot and then we make it look the way our clients want. ;; Below are 2 images, one is a flat scan of a frame of film and the other is a finished scan of the same frame. ;; It is a bit like useing photo shop, only more power full and the images are moving.
The bonus of working for a small company that caters to a creative clientell is fun and relaxation is encouraged, we have 2 colour grading suites each with an xbox and a ps2, a screening room with a big screen HDTV that we hook the xbox up to all the time, a pool table, ping pong table and a fozbal table. ;; Each suite also has a kick ass stereo in it, a MAC and PC and a bar fridge. ;; I work unsupervised at night, so I get the run of the place. ;; If I am waiting for film to come from the lab, I fire up the xbox. ;; Once I colour grade a bunch of stuff, I play Halo while it records. ;; Most nights I can get in a little bit of gaming, some nights are way to busy for any, and others, like 2 nights ago, I was waiting for film until 4am, so I played for ;; about 5 hours.
Well thats it for now, if I work on any thing cool in the future I may post some pixs.
