There were gift bags and television cameras, cold cocktails and hot popcorn. Ushers showed V.I.P.’s to their seats, and local politicos rubbed shoulders with the movie’s backers and flacks.
In fact, according to the movie’s star, Steven F. Hayward, there was only one thing missing from what could have otherwise been a typical Hollywood opening: liberals.
ALSO, An excerpt from a book I am reading:
Rodet looked surprised.
"Have you ever been to the American cemetery at Normandy?" Grafton asked. He didn't wait for a reply. "Young Americans have been fighting for freedom, for liberty, since the American Revolution. They've fought kings, rebels, dictators, Communist oligarchies, and now religious fanatics. They've been maimed and killed on battlefields all over this planet. Black, white, yellow, brown, they come from the four corners of the earth to obey the orders of their elected officials. Those officials have made many mistakes, sometime grievous ones, but still young people step forward to wear an American uniform, to fight for the flag. They're my sons and daughters; all of them - soldiers, sailors, Marines, airmen - every last one of 'em"
