The Santa Maria

On a different angle this thanksgiving, I try to imagine what it would be like sailing halfway across the world, in all kinds of weather, on a ship like this. Kind of amazing that people did that back then, but I guess they didn't have a choice. Can you imagine what it would be like to be surrounded by water for months, almost out of supplies, not even knowing if there's any place to "discover"? Remember, most of the crew thought they would fall off the world!

And then one day, maybe it happened just as the sun starting coming up, there was land... LAND! A new beginning, a new land, a new culture to explore (I won't go into that).

I know, I have mixed Columbus Day and Thanksgiving, but doesn't it all fit together? Kinda like family... somehow, on holidays, everyone seems to fit together.

OK - I realize this makes no sense at all. It was actually the Mayflower that discovered what we call the US - did anyone figure it out?

I know - it's a little confusing.  I was thinking about ships and the first one that came to mind was the Santa Maria... don't you think I brought it all together in the end, though?  I must be delirious because I am now in the top 25 bloggers... of all time!

I know a lot of historical things, I just don't know how they all fit together.
