Shared on Wed, 03/21/2007 - 12:46WARNING - this is not the same poem/pic format today. The last 2 days have been rather stressful, and though I don't feel that my blog should be used to tell everyone everything that's going on in my life, as it is quite boring, I will divulge this information. I am also too lazy/upset to go through it again, so it is excerpted from an email I mailed to my mom.
KEY:
Tobi = our 4 yr old female Chihuahua
...To add to that stress, Tobi started contractions on Monday afternoon, and had one puppy at 3:30pm. I saw another coming out, but it didn't come out all the way. All day Monday I was watching Tobi, and she appeared to be taking good care of the first puppy - but I was concerned about the second. At 6 am Tuesday morning, Tobi jumped up on our bed, which was weird, because I though she wasn't supposed to leave the puppy. I went to the box and saw the first puppy and that's it. At 8 am, Matt woke me up, so I went to check Tobi again and saw another puppy, but it still had the sack around it and was not alive.
Out of concern for any other puppies that may still be inside, I took her to the vet. The vet gave her a shot to induce labor. I mentioned my concern that the puppy wasn't feeding, but he didn't seem to care. He wanted to do an x-ray, but I didn't have the money to afford that, so I feel like the visit was cut short.
At 7:30pm last night the first puppy was stiff and unresponsive. I removed the puppy and since then Tobi has been inconsolable - and I am too. When I try to squeeze Tobi's nipples, there is no milk. I never saw that puppy get any milk from her. It was male, but looked just like Tobi including the silver stripe on his forehead.
