I am actually writing this so that you guys can correct me if I have overlooked anything, so please leave comments if I have.
Obviously, 2007 isn't over yet and there are still some amazing titles to come before the calander turns to 2008, but I was thinking about viable Game of the Year candidates on the consoles and it dawned on me that it is very possible that all five Game of the Year nominees could be available on the 360. Looking back over the games that have been released to date, I believe that there are two sure-fire nominees that have been released: BioShock and Halo 3 (I love The Orange Box, but can't see a package including a game that has already won Game of the Year honors getting a nomination). I suspect that Call of Duty 4 will get a nomination based on what I have seen and played so far. So that would be 3 of the 5 nominations going to titles available on the 360. If Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect can live up to the considerable hype that each has received, they could take those last two game of the year spots. Obviously, this would be a HUGE marketing advantage for Microsoft. However, the other consoles still have a fighting chance to prevent an "available on the 360" sweep.
PS3 exclusive titles Ratchet & Clank Future, Warhawk, and Heavenly Sword are the only possible PS3 nominees that I can see to date. Nintendo really only has Metroid Prime 3 so far. As for games that are still to come from Sony and Nintendo that are not going to be available on the 360, Sony has Uncharted (I believe that Haze got pushed back to 2008), while Nintendo has Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Brothers Brawl. R&C's reviews have been mixed, so I am not sure that it has a real shot. I would be surprised if an online-only game got a nomination and Heavenly Sword is too short. I seriously haven't heard a single thing about Metroid Prime since its release, which isn't a good thing. I think that Uncharted is going to be great and Mario Galaxy and SSBB will be wildly popular (although, as a gamer that left Nintendo for Sega, I can't see how the Nintendo faithful can get that excited over another Mario game and another Smash Bros. game. Aren't you folks getting tired of these games yet?). Thus, as BioShock, Halo 3, and CoD4 have likely taken 3 of the nominations, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Uncharted, and Super Mario Galaxy will likely be vying for those last two spots.
Have I missed any titles? Is there something exclusive to one of the other consoles that has slipped under my 360-focused attention?
