I played as a soldier on my first normal playthrough - bringing my character from ME1 (Paragon) and it was fun to see the additional stuff brought into the game.
I started an engineer and biotic characters to get a feel for those classes and get the achievements with their powers.
My second full playthrough was with an evil Shepard soldier on Insanity. I got all the DLC - the two extra companions, Overlord, Shadow Broker - that had any achievements attached (I didn't feel like I needed the additional armors and such). The remaining achievements were for the Insanity, Brawler and No One Left Behind. That last one dings later than the Insanity one and I was *SURE* I had gotten it, but was starting to get concerned.
Advice for the Insanity run - There is no such thing as luck. You have to manage your group's powers (turn them off) and armaments and tactical positions in order to get through choke points in the game. Monitor the battlefield, redeploy and sometimes the best option is to not heal your companions until the end of that firefight, to conserve medigel.
Many times you can back up from a fight, giving you more ground which to force your opponent to come to you and you have the advantage, with upgraded sniper weapons and weapon damage effects and powers (like AI hack, etc.)
The story was very enjoyable. I am kind of interested now in how they are going to treat ME3 with characters who have been through two games. Their worlds are becoming more divergent.
