Run.

At about 8:30 PM last night, I had enough. I saw just under thirty patients in the office yesterday. Got home and had some pasta with the wife and kids. Bathed the kids and put them in bed (though they didn't fall asleep until 11:30), and finally at about 8:15, I told my wife I really needed to run.

I love running. It truly is my best "alone time" as I usually leave my pager at home (unless I am on call and then I carry it and the cell phone).

It was cool, probably around 50 degrees. No rain, no cloud cover. Slight breeze.

I probably ran the first mile in about seven and a half minutes, perhaps closer to eight, I didn't check. The second mile is a long downhill and then a long uphill by the park. Mile three is fairly flat with one hill. The last half mile is also flat, through our small downtown, by the university and then home.

Three and a half miles. Twenty nine minutes fifty-five seconds. Not my best. But I felt a lot better afterwards because I was breathing hard.

I've just started back in the last couple of weeks since I had my son. . . who is now four. Old bones, old muscles, lots of Tylenol! But a real sense of accomplishment!

3.5 miles in 29 minutes? Thats not bad. Over here if you run alot outside you have a pretty good chance of getting mugged, bitten by a dog or even kidnapped. So I stick to running at home on a treadmill and pop in a DVD of wakeboarding vids to pump me up.

Good job! I miss the days of taking off for a run, just the the wind in your hair and the sounds of the city......very relaxing!!
