Thinking about a car

Well, I have been browsing for a new car on and off.   The 1999 Jetta runs fine, but has some gremlins in the electrical system that we can't seem to work out, and the front bumper gets caught on curbs all the time.

I have looked at the responsible stuff - Camry, Corolla, Accord, Civic.  Then I saw the Mazda RX-8.  I need four seats occasionally, otherwise I'd look at the S2000.

I should go with the responsible stuff, but I really want to drive the RX-8.  Pretty, sporty.

I would stay away from a rotary engine. Not that their no good, but maintenance issues and spares could be hard to find.

I like the RX-8 and Mazda has come a long way in the last 20 years. Little issues (like electrical gremlins) are considerably less costly to fix than VW's also.

Don't forget to think about fuel economy, ultimately we could be paying $8 a gallon in a few years if the typical 50cent/gallon more per year ratio continues. Next year will be 4.50/gallon, hear after 5/gallon and so on. YOu don't want to be stuck with a gas guzzler that no one will want to buy especially if you need to drive long distances for commuting.
