Shared on Wed, 05/30/2007 - 17:00My apologies if someone has already done this. I vaguely remember reading something similar (by TANK maybe?) and probably much funnier but I need to vent.
I had an expierence last weekend that many of our 2old2play members have shared at one time or another. I met this kid during matchmaking who seemed really decent. We partied up, I played several games with him and he sent me a Friend Request which I accepted. So I log off for a while, jump back on later, and get a game invite from my 2old2play friends. Shortly after joining the room, we are all chatting in the lobby and this kid appears in the room....
"Guys, this is so-and-so, hes a kid but hes cool, can he stay?"
"Sure Capn, if you vouch for him, we are sure it will be OK"
Raise your hand if you know what comes next.
We get in the game, assault on Vahalla I think, and pretty soon he is critisizing everyones play...horsing around by shooting down the shields of teammates while we are in base, makes a stupid move with one of the land mines and gets himself and another guy blown up. Lets just say it wasn't very pretty. Luckily for me, I have some forgiving friends so I just chalk it up to a lesson learned.
As a public service, I would like to introduce:
So you want to play with an older gamer? A Guide for Timmies.
I can understand that. I imagine playing with your peers even gets on your nerves once in a while. Now here you meet a nice 'mom' type older gamer, who doesn't hoard weapons, tell you how much you suck or betray or quit on you when things are not going well. Even better, instead of acting like the world revolves around her and constantly pointing out her superpawnage of the enemy (well I very rarely have superpawnage of an enemy, but thats besides the point here) , she notices when you do something well and compliments you for it. What's not to like?
So you see your new friend is a pretty full open room and want to get your game on. You get in the room and the first thing you notice is that the voices are deeper. Otherwise this may seem like every other lobby but in reality, you are in a whole new world. Here are some things you should know before venturing further.
- Yes, you may here some trash talk in the lobby or the game but the people who are here most likely have known each other and played together for months, even years. Joining in the banter as a newcomer young enough to be most of the member's in the room son will NOT be appriciated.
- Firing at your teammates in fun is also usually looked down upon...it may seem funny to you, but to the older gamer it is assanine. Really.
- Calling out weapons - Don't. In fact to make up for (some of ) our lack of lightning reflexes we use stratagy. As hard as it is to believe, If you keep your yap shut and listen, you may learn something. In fact, someone may even make a request for someone to go get the sniper for example; in which case you will look much more mature by offering at that point.
- Going along with points one and three, we know it is hard for you, but please don't go on about how good you are when every time you make a kill (or even when you don't). And DON'T point out how lame the people on the other team (or on your team) are. Remember the people on the other team are probably your teammates friends too. We would much rather use the banhammer than to listen to your opinion of our buddies playing style.
- Again, going along with #3, we most likely don't share your taste in music, so if you must sing and make noises while you are playing, do so with your mic muted.
I think that about covers it...again my apologies to those involved in the game. He is no longer on the friends list.
