From the press release:
Jamie Patricof and Jeremy Kipp Walker of Single A Films today announced plans to film a full-length feature film in the Quad Cities beginning in mid-August of this year. Filming in the Quad Cities will last approximately 3 weeks, and estimated production costs will be about $1 million dollars for production in the area. Filming will also take place in Burlington, Iowa, the Dominican Republic, Arizona and New York.
The yet untitled film will be about a young man from the Dominican Republic who is inspired by the baseball film "Field of Dreams", and comes to Iowa to play in the minor leagues. He follows his dreams and works his way up to the majors. The film will receive theatrical distribution in the United States and abroad.
Locations for filming are now being scouted around the Quad Cities, and it is anticipated some local talent will be used in the production of the film. The majority of the filming will take place at John O'Donnell stadium in Davenport.
Best of luck to the producers and film crew. I can see why John O'Donnell stadium was chosen; with the Mississippi River behind it certainly is a picturesque scene.
So teddybear decides it would be fun to be an extra in the movie. The paper says if you are willing to report Tue., Thur. and Fri. evenings at stadium you can get $100. Since he is looking for a job and has the freedom, he takes three of the kids down there Tuesday (the fourth has football practice). They ended up staying until midnight! It looks like Thur. and Fri. are going to be just as late, but it sounds like their having fun there so I OK it even though they were a little bleary eyed for school Wednesday. I will call in for them Friday, not that I usually do that sort of thing but hey folks were in Iowa and when is the next opportunity going to come along for them to do something like this?
My kids are all wound up. Apparently they provide snacks (read chips and candy) for everyone as well as a chicken sandwich for what they call lunch (Hollywood people, what can I tell ya) at 7:00 pm. Our teams Mascot, Clyde is there along with a clown, they hold raffles for stuff every hour or so and at the end of the night they have a fireworks display...so the family gets entertained also. Such a deal!
Anyway, I am planning on joining them Friday night, not because I want my fifteen minutes of fame but teddybear said he would welcome the help with the kids. So I am telling each of them to bring a friend (tb thinks I am nuts but I know that if kids are with their friends they stay out of your hair more) and I plan to bring some healthy snacks. Should be an interesting experience!
