Xbox360 failure... take 3

Here is my story.  I pre-ordered my XBOX360 7-8 month before it's November 22nd 2005 release date.   As most of us know they were short all around on filling orders so I stood in line with a friend at the Walmart in Hudson, NH.  It wasn't freezing but about 30 degrees out that night.   7 hours later it's 1am and I'm walking out of the store with my XBOX premium pack.  YAY!!!!    Just then a shady looking guy in an Italian Mafia looking gansta suit stops me and tells me he will pay me $1000 cash for it.  Well, I wasn't expecting this kind of thing to happen and I was torn and in the moment I took the cashola.   I didn't get my pre-ordered Xbox until mid december but I was happy once I got it plus I made a good profit right?   yea!

Now onto the exciting part.  4 months of gaming go by and I get my first sign of lock ups.  Nothing tragic, just a reboot and it was fine.  Then in April 2006 the thing dies.... dead.... three red lights and there is no recovering it.

I call MS and send it in for repair.  2 weeks later I have a different console sent to me.  I refurbished unit if you will.  I was fine with that as long as It work right?  YAY!! back in business.    Another 4 months of gaming go by and BAM!!!  dead 360 in Aug 2006...  hmmm.. .WTF..  I call MS.. bitch a little but do the right thing and box it up and send it in.   Again, I get a refurbished console back and I'm happy because I have a working 360.  wahoo!..    Well, just last weekend I starting having some random lock ups... 5 days later BAM!!!   DEAD!!   3 red lights.   I called MS and really reamed them out..  I wanted a NEW console, etc etc...   they didn't budge...    I don't get it.   I have been very understanding about getting them repaired and replaced.  I feel that after 3 failures I deserve a new console.  That's all... nothing extra, just a new console.   "No, I'm sorry sir, blah blah...  we'll pass your concerns to corperate HQ"...  So I packed it up the Monday and sent it in.   I was so frustrated by this that I said FUCK IT and ran out to target and bought a CORE system.   My thought is I can sell my newly repaired/replaced console once I get it back with all the CORE pieces and get the $300 that it cost me.  no loss and I'm up and running with a newly manufactured 360 B.O.D (Dec 2006).  So as I await the repaired unit to come home I'm happily playing Call of Duty 3 (with the NEW MAPS!!!) and Rainbow Six: Vegas...  which are my current game choices.   I just beat LOST PLANET and shipped it back to Gamefly monday.

Has anyone else here at 2old2play had three or more failures???   And how did you resolve it?  Just curious.  My consoles are alway on my top shelf of the open style component shelf so I know it's not an over heating issue.

I had two failures. The first one was similiar to your three. It began locking up and scratched the hell out of my COD 2 disk so I called them up and got it repaired just like you did (they wouldn't replace my COD 2 disk, had to pay Activision $20 for a new copy). When I got the new console back it wouldn't connect to XBox Live. It just wouldn't do it. Xbox had me call my cable company and my cable company had me call Xbox. Each time I had to call I got a new person that had me do the same BS tests the last twelve people had. Finally, someone at Xbox figured that the refurbished box they sent wasn't configured properly to play on Xbox live which was why it wouldn't connect. So I had to box it up again and send it back. Since then though I've had no other problems with it. Everything has worked just like it should. I agree with you though, after three you should have been given or been reimbursed for a new machine.
