Shared on Mon, 09/24/2007 - 11:59Well, it's been a week since I started Trigger on his Baytril and Ensure treatment regimen and while he looked to be improving, at first, now it seems as though it's doing little to nothing. His breathing is still as labored as before and he's now having porphyrin staining around his eye, which he never had in all of his previous infections (he had nose staining, but never around his eye). Admittedly, he is a bit more active, but not by much, and he doesn't seem to be gaining back any of his lost weight. Sometimes he lays on his side to eat, sometimes he goes over to the small cage to be alone, and sometimes he looks very unsure of himself when he tries to walk (though he's holding his tail perfectly - a decent sign as very sick rats will just let their tails drag behind them).
I realize that antibiotics are very fickle things and may not show any real improvement until the end of the 14 day treatment but - and maybe I'm just too optimistic - I was hoping that I'd be able to see some degree of improvement within a week.
