Mediaman mentioned he'd like to know more about what my life out here is like, working on the water for four weeks at a time, putting it in a daily blog. I could do that, hopefully you guys won't find it too boring. It has it's moments. This will be a good time to start and it will only be fore the remainder of my hitch, two weeks. So starting tomorrow I'll start blogging about my how my days go.

A heads up on how my work schedule out here is. We work twelve hour shifts broken up into 6 hour watches. My shift is called the front watch or first watch. I am up(awake) and on duty from (0600)6 a.m. to 12 p.m. then off watch from 12p.m. to 6 p.m.(1800) then on from 1800 to 2400. That's one day. We are preparing to get underway(set sail) at this moment and head south from Chicago, IL to New Orleans, LA. If I can, I'll post a chart of our route to help visualize. And if you guys are interested in seeing the vessel I Captain, you can check my previous post for the link. Our company has a site also,  www.blessey.com/ click on the equipment link and tugs for more pics of our vessels and the barges link for what we push. Also under the section of 2000 - 1700 horsepower vessels you'll see a link to a tug named in my honor, Capt. Jonathan Brown.

You have a boat named after you, that is really great Capt. As I said in my previous link, we live on the Mississippi and watch tugs and barges all the time. When we are crossing over the bridge to go to work, we always try and make out the names of the vessels waiting in the docks. I will be sure to keep my eye out for it.
