While being an adult has it's advantages, voting, owning a home etc, adulthood also comes with alot of worries. Being a parent compounds many of these problems too. I keep telling my kids to enjoy there childhood. My 12 year old son says he can't wait till he turns 17 so he can what all the awesome R rated movies he's missing out on (300). Slow down son, the day will come when you wish you were a young man without a care in the world.
So here of late I have been debating the whole growing up thing. Giving up my games, watching cartoons, reading fantasy and sci-fi books. Maybe getting more into politics, reading the New Yorker and such. But you know what? Doing those things would not make me happy. And after all isn't being happy one of the things that helps us live longer and be more productive people? It's all a balancing act. Not letting the kid in you get in the way of your responsibilities as an adult(father, husband, employee).
As a matter of fact, being an adult helps us to better kids inside. Now that we are adults we can afford all the neat stuff that out parents couldn't give us. Now we can do all the things that as kids we only dreamed about doing. So, if you ever considered growing up or your significate other tells you its time to grow up, unless your harming them or yourself in some way, I'd tell them to consider that doing so would change who you are and what makes you so much fun to be around.
I have recently went so far as to subscribe to comics. I used to read them a good bit as a kid and preteen but stopped once I got older and had more things on my mind. My son likes them so I decided to start up again, figuring this will give us something else in common that we can relate on together.
