Shared on Mon, 04/05/2010 - 12:46So I played the crap out of Modern Warfare 2 this weekend due to the Double Xp and new maps. I had a good time. I didn't experience much of the problems that were plaguing the game before I stopped playing to move onto other games. I ended up going up a whole prestige because of the 2x xp. Good times. I really like the new maps, even though the price. They two old maps are well redone and the 3 new maps are my favorit maps in the game now. They are designed very well. You can go from CQB’s to long range fights very fast.
Looking online there is some talk in the industry about Treyarch's COD 7. This made me think about how big this game is for the developer. This is their biggest chance to set the wow factor and amaze people with their ability to develop COD Games. Though MW2 is an okay game, it has left a bad taste in the mouth of a lot of games. And even the die hard COD4 gamers were left disappointed (myself included).
Treyarch has been given the perfect opportunity to move up the ranks. This opportunity gives them the ability to use their creative abilities and develop the game as they seem. They should not be influenced to include MW2 features as they did with W@W. W@W was built to be very close to COD4, as all games do in which they build off the successes of other games. As I said MW2 has caused some disappointment, so Treyarch has the ability to come up with fresh ideas to really but the next COD ahead just as COD 4 did. Treyarch did this when they developed the Zombie peice of the game. This idea was a great feature that I bet was not supposed to be such a big deal. They need to trust in thier teams and develop something fresh.
They will have some exterior risks to compete with. Xbox's Golden Child is releasing a new game this year with Halo: Reach. Out side of the die hard gamers that buy the game on release day, it comes down to Christmas Sales. And we all know Halo will have a huge boost on sales over COD any day. Also the other big advancement (of what has been announced) is Natal. People will be asking for Natal and compatible games for the Christmas season. So families that would be dropping XX amount of dollars on gaming presents might get used up on other items rather than COD 7.
What does this mean to Treyarch? Infinity Ward has lowered the bar (and I say that even though I do enjoy playing MW2). I was a die hard IW fan for a long time. After cod4 I didn't think they could do any wrong but my opinion changed. Again, MW2 is not a bad game, but I felt they didn’t deliver on what was needed. Treyarch has the opportunity to create a great game here. They can prove they are just as good as a developer as IW. But they will have to create a great game to compete with this season’s release. So they have a lot of pressure to create a good game.
