Shared on Tue, 08/26/2008 - 14:15I went to get my hair cut and the stylist was new for me. When she found out I played video games she starting telling everybody around her that "hey everybody, she plays video games....LOL ah ah" Then they all (mothers and some young women wanting to be hot, but were not) started talking about how stupid games are, and games have no value in real life, far as teaching. One started in about--as she said-- "worries about her boy spending too much time with games and how they just suck all intelligence from him. All games are worthless and are a waste of the mind." or "I've played some of these games and find them boring, stupid, and I don't see how anybody could waste time playing them." "If I could burn my husbands games, I would" This went on the whole time I was there. There was more, but I want bore you with it. I wanted to say something, but it wasn't worth my time or effort. Then they started on "if I color my hair?", I said "no" about 10 times, and two ladies wouldn't give it up, even after the stylist said "no, I can tell she dosen't color it" It was just a bad time and I'm not in a good mood. I hate paying to be abused. I didn't tip her, I will not be returning, and my hair cut wasn't even good!
So I just wanted to blog this below, because I know y'all will understand. Because you're Gamers!!!! WOOT!!!!!
I know it's long, but it's just the mood I'm in.
I need for game play to fulfill four basic gaming needs (not wants, NEEDS):
1. good game play
2. amazing environments
3. great story
4. intriguing characters
5. wonderful music
6. superb voice acting
hmmm.....that was 6.
I like multiple challenges coming at me all at once in games. "Thinking on the fly" that's what I call it. The feeling is "Oh shit!, oh shhhhh!" and then you go into focus mode where it's you and the elements. The feel of pulling off moves flawlessly with very little ammo to spare and even less health. It's an Aawww!!! moment I like to wallow in.....after everyone else on the screen is dead, of course.
Take the Resident Evil series. It's about strategizing your ammo, weapons and health to perfection. Nothing gives me a rush like knowing I have only 4 shotgun shells, 1 grenade and a few bullets and they're coming straight for my warm body. Perfect head shots are imperative to not waste ammo. Using the environment to its fullest advantage. The first time you come across the Chainsaw Dude in RE4, when he revs that chain saw up, you know it's going to be bad. At the same moment, you're excited as kittens at milk time.
High end action, Yeah, it's one of the things I like about the first RE. When Nemesis comes busting though, you haven't time to think, you just do it. Controlled frenzy! All-out war! Changing weapons, dodging, scanning the area in split seconds to pick up vital items. Kill or be killed! I ain't going nowhere but to see the next cut scene.
Or in Silent Hill, where you're just happy to get your sorry scared ass inside any building. You're like wtf was that!!??!...some kinda creepy, messed up thing chasing my butt! You have no clue what it was, and you're not about to find out. It's about smart choices, being more clever than the AI.
In DMC 3, the final battle with Virgil wasn't as hard as I would have preferred. Whoooping on Virgil' was a thrill and the Jester was just down right fun to watch in action...."Jesters gonna spank your butt, spank ya on the buuuuut"
In the first Halo, you get swarmed by the "Flood." Perfect name for them, cause that's what they do, FLOOD everything. They are just freaking everywhere. You shot at the big ones and they become more little bastard ones. You're thinking "Well, This Can't Be Good!" They keep coming and you have to get the hell out of there. RETREAT! And, at the end of Halo, you have to drive off in the warthog. Balls to the walls, in your face game play! Wooohoo!!! Nothing like when the music kicks in and you drive off. You feel like such a bad ass, but the whole time you're like "Am I gonna make it?....Am I gonna make it!!?!?!" I was sitting on the edge of my wits and loving every second of it.
The end of MGS PS1 was another one that just rocked. When I did my final kill, I felt like standing up and doing a Tarzan yell AAHHHHHAAAHHHH AAAHHHH AHHHHHHH!!
Up against the Sisters of Fate in GOW2, you're thinking..."this stuff rocks", as you're trying to figure out what to do next, or...Game Over!
Just typing all this gets me excited about playing these games.
OMG! I am an adrenaline junkie....LMAO!
It's not that I don't play other games because I do, everything from Harvest Moon (great stress reliever game) to Final Fantasy. I own almost every good title out there. It's just my heart belongs to Action Adventures.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to check my ammo....
