Attack of the Rocker Chicks

For one reason or another I choose to listen to music that mainly consists of angry angry little girls, chicks with hypnotic vocals, or girls that just plain fucking rock.

In honor of these ladies, I give you a short list of some of the femme fatales I have been listening to as of late. Whether or not you like the music I’m sure you can agree that these chicks are sexy in a “damn the man” kind of way. Some look like they could kick your ass, other look like they could party you under the table, and most look like they’d be a handful in the sack. Whatever their aesthetic qualities, ALL of them are more easy on the ears than they are on the eyes. Oh, and a word of warning to any female reading this...the further on you go, the more chauvinistic this gets, so please keep that in mind. This was, after all, written for the Bros. :)

And so I give you these ladies, As stated this is a small collection, I’m sure I missed more than a few, so feel free to add as you see fit.

Here they are, in no particular order

Karen O – yeah yeah yeahs
Not many women in today’s music scene rock as hard as this one. She’s like a clone of Joan Jett and Mick Jagger. Her stage presence is awesome and her energy is seldom matched. Did I mention she is almost 6 feet tall and pounds a 5th of Tequila before most shows?

Chantal Claret – Morningwood
First and foremost, you gotta love the band name. Second, this curvy rocker has a distinct talent for getting your feet tapping. She also has a sexier than hell voice and rocks pretty mutherfucking hard.

Maja Ivarsson – The Sounds
For some stranger than fuck reason, I have this special place in my heart for Swedish Pop music. Maybe it’s the forced English or that most of these chicks are blond, I don’t know. What I do know is that whatever the reason for this affinity, it began with Maja and the Sounds. While she is easy on the eyes, she also looks like the kind of chick that would totally get ion a bar fight for you…and that... as we all know... is so the sexy!

Nouela Johnson – Mon Frere
Now, this one is a personal favorite. A half Korean chick with a severe infatuation with Vampires (regular ones, not the faggy twilight kind) and a killer voice….yeah…SOLD! Being one of the foremost examples of a genre called Death Pop, this chick really brings a certain something to the party. Needless to say, this one can bite my neck anytime.

Jemina Pearl – formerly of Be Your Own Pet
The first time I heard “adventurers” I was hooked. Not only do they rock, but this chick even sounds Cute…oh and lucky us, she is. Although much better as a brunette. She is unfortunately not currently with this band anymore and has recently released a solo thing that I haven’t heard yet. If it’s anything like her former stuff, then I’ll be hooked.

MayKay – Fight like Apes
How about we take a little hotness, some punk rock attitude and humor, some Irish heritage, and mix it all together. Well, that is the recipe for the sweet little muffin pictured below. MayKay, lead for the band Fight Like Apes, is as cute as she is hard core. Not to mention the fact that she is Irish…so, to recap… Irish rocker chick = Awesome.

Tegan and Sara Quinn –Tegan & Sara
While these two chicas may not rock as hard as the others listed, their harmonic voices have a unique sound all their own. I think the fact that they are sisters adds another quality to why I like them. For some reason, in my mind, they are taking a bath together while writing their songs. tee hee

Elizabeth Powell – Land of Talk
Maybe a little homely, maybe a little skinny, but this lass makes up for it with some seriously great vocals. I was hooked when I first heard “speak to me bones” and there has since been many a day where I listened to their album for the entire work day. Unfortunately, she's Canadian, but i can't find it in myself to hold that against her. Just kidding Canada! :)

Katie White – The Ting Tings
Why I enjoy this band is beyond my understanding. They sure are catchy though, and whenever I start to dwell on the cheesiness of some of their songs I am quickly reminded that Katie White is a fine ass white girl.

 

So, there you have it. A brief window into some of my music tastes...and subsequently, a window into my taste in women. I like em loud, I like em tough, and most importantly, they have to be able to rock.
