Gender Discrimination 2009...seriously?

COULOW

The Evening Tech moved to Days.  The Weekend Tech moved to Evenings.  The Night Tech moved to Weekends.

I waltzed in the CT/MRI Supervior's office to voice my application to the 11-7 Sunday - Thursday night shift position.  I was asked..."How does your spouse feel about this?  You'll be spending less time with him....What about kids?"

I am the only full time CT Technologist that is in menstration age.  Keep this in mind please.

The next day, I stormed to the Director of Radiology's office.  "May I have a moment?  I'm trying to follow proper protocol, so I'm not sure if I should be speaking with you or Human Resources..."

WELL.  What he did was inappropriate.  It was his "first offence."  He was "probably joking" however it was "totally inappropriate for him to ask those questions."  I should "be seriously considered for that position because of my tenure at the hospital" however "we do have another person vying for that shift"  even though "your dayshift position is very easy to fill in."

My inside sources reveal a 40+ male MRI Technologist, who's never worked with our Siemens Scanners and hasn't performed as a CT Tech for sometime was already offered the night shift position LONG before it was even POSTED that it was available.  Did I mention that he's employed by Desert Ridge?  A non affliate of my orginization?

I've left a follow up phone call to the Director just now, letting him know that my Supervisor has ignored me all week and "is there an interview process for I haven't received one!"

I"ll have to fight dirty on this shit.  I know I most likely won't get the position and I have to act fast.

I fucking hate my job.

That is all.

Stiffened COULOW.

If you want it...go for it, it is no ones business but your own and those questions are completely inappropriate. However...speaking from someone who is with someone who has just about that same shift....I hate it and it's been the cause of some problems for us. When I am working we don't spend much time together at all (girlie me likes time together). He goes to work, then when he comes home I'm flying out the door to my job, he does his thing then goes to bed, I come home, fix dinner (breakfast for him) he gets up, we eat, spend an hour together then repeat. It isn't fun and I don't like it at all. So, while it may have been inappropriate for the dude to even mention it, consider it. I'm sure you've done some already....but, just saying. :)

It's a 20% pay increase of my base salary per hour. I'd have Fridays and Saturdays off. Rumor mill states they don't want me off days because I'm the most qualified in Cardiac CT which only takes place during the day. The Techs with 30 (yes 30!) yrs of experience aren't as good as I with Cardiac. The head MD of Cardiac told my Supervisor that I am the best at Cardiac for Jesus' sake. I'm headed to the director's office again today, and if we don't meet, I'm off to HR on Monday.

I am surprised.. our local hospitals are emphatically human resourcy... i.e. very legal on what you can and cannot say to anyone. Not taking you off of days because you are the best translates (to me) to then at least giving you the 20% pay increase. If you are that important, they should cough it up.
