Shared on Mon, 03/05/2007 - 20:41We just had a fire alarm in the middle of class. No biggie. 20 minutes of standing in chilly weather. Ever since my dorm caught on fire in college, I don't really mess with fire alarms in buildings. I don't melt down and start crying or anything, but I do move towards the exits.
In the crowded staircase, I counted 5 people going the wrong way. These are prime Darwinian culling candidates. Then, the staircase I was in had a door on the 3rd floor. Marked in huge, red letters: FIRE EXIT. Me and two other people used that door while I was in the area (there could have been more before or after that). I will point out that I was the youngest of use using the labeled exit.
After milling about, we were given the high sign and let back in. The lobby was absolutely packed with young 20 somethings waiting for the elevator. There were 4 stairwells virtually empty. The building is only 6 stories high. At most, these lazy slobs had to walk 5 flights of stairs.
