(Back then, anything that could fit on a CD-rom and would make sense to Windows 3.11/95/98 was a "game") With the 180 and the PS2, I figured that consolegaming was finally matured enough to tackle PC and I would get to play games on a system that wouldn't need any upgrades for at least 5-8 years at a time. Until that time, I had consoles on the side because of Squaresoft, mainly.
For years, that worked as intended. I fell in love with the 180 and quite early on got rid of the PS2. Buying a 360 was a logical step. But the 360 now is not the 360 I once bought. And gaming is no longer gaming as we used to do it. Console gaming has gone from being hassle-free to being a downright pain in the neck. No more couch co-op. No hot-seating anymore. If you have a friend over and you want to play a game together, your friend has to go home. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a console...
And then I'm not even talking about the restrictions that crept into the consoles over the years. It is as if MS doesn't want you to play games anymore. You must watch videos, listen to radiostations, read your facebook and tweet and watch preselected youtubes! Yeah, why not buy a PC instead?
So, doesn't returning to the PC bring back the hassle I once wanted to avoid by moving to consoles? Well, I can play Skyrim on Ultra and then I still have to adjust the mouse because it moves too fast... My rig is a I7 3.97Ghz, Nvidia GT450 1Gig Full-HDMI with 4 Gigs of sysmem... I think I'm alright for a couple of years. Basically, it plays modern games on their ultra settings.
The weird thing is that I've stopped scouring the internet for game-news too. I can't explain it. It is as if I'm cured or something. I love gaming still, but the motivation to look up news on new games just isn't there anymore. Crystal Dynamics is warming up the Tombraider hypemachine on Facebook and I realised I didn't care. I'll see it when the game is on the shelves I guess.
I do still game and I have spent an afternoon getting my Sims2 library to work under w7-64 (vista sp2 compatibility, administrator start works like a charm). I still play WoW and have recently started a new Belf. I play Fallout 3 Goty, Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas. I'm thinking about resubbing to Pogo too. I used to collect badges there! So yeah, my gaming habbit is changing rather severely but I have to say that I like where it is going.
Pretty soon, Diablo 3! Who's with me?
