8 OUT OF 10?

So I was standing around yesterday talking to some of the neighbors yesterday, and they began inquiring as to all the activity going on at my house (funriture, props, lighting ~ preppeing for shoot this coming saturday), so I explained to them about the project, some of the background, and the fireworks started flying. It got so heated I ran in the house grabbed the camera and started rolling film (I'm debating on wether or not to keep it on me at all times, cause people get all riled up whenever I try and open dialogue about the subject matter). I live in a upper-middle class community with what appears to be none of the stigmas that are associated with the urban and inner cities, with the exception of one. THE ATTITUDES! While the names and faces may have been changed the perceptions are rampant, I had 3 women basically try and beat me into a UFC style submission over just one issue (the percentage of black men engaged in homosexual or bisexual behaviors) Thank god i didn't bring up interracial dating. Looks Like I got my work cut out for me, cause while my perception is that I'm going to have to fight an uphill battle establishing the premise that some of the facts laid before us are not representative of what is real, the perceptions, well watch this little clip and you'll get a feel of what's festering in black suburbia.

OBTW...I need to mention that you, my family at 2old2play are probably the only people who are getting the insite behind the processes, premises, the positioning (alot of the pre-film hype should play right into the fears and perceptions that permiate) and the finale postulates for progress. I'm puposely painting the picture this way to expose' the fallacies and reveal the truths behind what is really happening. your opnions are generally balanced and slightly removed from the innate biases in my community, so any feedback and input is genuinely appreciated!

Dantez, I had to catch up on your blog after being on vacation for the weekend, but your documentary sounds fascinating. The footage you already have is thought-provoking and I can't wait to see what else you get. One thing I would suggest (and if you have already thought of this, then forgive me) is to include definitions of the slang terms that are used. I was unaware that "down-low" or "DL" could be used to mean someone was a homosexual. I figured it out from the context of the conversations, but at first I was thinking to myself "8 out of 10 black men are on the 'DL'? What, does that mean? Cheating on your girlfriend?" DOH! Seriously though, your project sounds fascinating and I think it is very brave of you to take on a subject that could be considered inflammatory. Watch your back man!

from wikipedia: "Down-low" is a slang term. It is often used to refer to something that is secret or hidden. One usage is to describe men who have sex with men, but who identify themselves as neither homosexual nor bisexual. This use of the term may have originated in African American slang and this type of sexual behavior exists in all cultures and I'm getting ready to board up my windows, I saw one of my neighbors getting a trunkload of bricks dropped off today!

Heres something for you. Personally? I would never have thought 8 out of ten, in fact, if pressed I would think that there were much fewer gay black men than white. No valid definable reason for this, just an inherant thought that the general black man would be less likely to be influenced by cultural or social extremes and more by the accepted norms.
