Don't be stupid

This will be the last post I make on the death of my friend, I promise...

I got some more details on Scott's murder, based on the gas station survailance tape. Right as as Scott was finishing fueling up his SUV, these three punks approached him. One put a snub nosed revolver into Scott's belly and said "give me your money." Scott said, "Fuck you" and tried to grab the gun. The punk then shot him in the gut. This spun Scott around and then this cocksucker fired again, hitting Scott in the back. That second shot went throug an artery and caused Scott to bleed to death.

Would he still be alive right now if he had just handed over his wallet? Maybe. Maybe not. But my guess is that these cowards would have just taken his money and run.

There's a tendency to want to "be a man" and "be tough", but maybe the best way to "be a man" is to stay alive for the sake of your wife, your kids, your grandkids, and all the kids you mentor at the boxing club. The line between bravery and foolishness is not always clear. But I know this -- if ever I'm in the same situation -- even though it goes against every thing I feel inside, I hope I remember that a moment of cowardice may allow me to enjoy a long life with my family.
