Wirlms, sparrowmints, buzzlegums, squazzils, bunnycombs, pretztails, and doenuts are living together. The only time I have any fights is when some other creature wanders into the garden.
I also bought a pair of barkbarks and had them make a puppy. I'm not sure what purpose barkbarks serve in the grand scheme. They don't protect my garden from Sours -- I had to hire some "muscle" in the form of a nightwatcher and a daywatcher to help out with that.
There are so many things to discover in this game. I'm reluctant to go to any Viva Pinata websites, because I'd like to discover this stuff on my own -- but it's a bit overwhelming. There's so much experimentation involved. I wish I could figure out how to get my bees to make honey -- that would help me start making some serious cash. I'm also sure there are ways to mutate creatures, perhaps by feeding them specific foods or other creatures, but I haven't pulled that off yet either...
