Unwanted blog guests

I promised I'd blog a couple of times today -- mainly because I've had a couple of blog related thoughts swirling in my head that I'd like to get some other folks' perspective on.

In my opinion, when you blog, you're putting a piece of yourself out in the public domain.  You're giving people an opportunity to get know you better.  It's entirely possible that people may not like what they see when they get to know you better.  They may disagree with you and they may comment on your blog accordingly.  Certainly, there are sites where blogs around politics, religion, and even gaming are authored specifically to illicit polarized responses.

I've seen a number of blogs on this site that have created debates within the comments.  Some bloggers on this site seem to consider their blog and the related comments to be their personal space and thus sacrosanct.  I've seen people delete their entire blog because they didn't like a comment someone posted.

I, myself, am a little torn on the issue.  On the one hand, I feel like at 2o2p, we are one little community and a blog should be a safe zone where people don't pop into your blog and insult or harass you (especially if the content of your blog is not inflammatory).  On the other hand, I do feel that the moment you post a blog, your blog space is now in the public domain and you have to accept the consequences of that.

What do you all think?

Agree, but a bad comment does not give you the right to delete your own bog, because some one else might find it useful

Pfffft No artwork? thumbs down. lol\r \r I feel if you put yourself out there, you have to accept the good with the bad. It's not like someone's comment is going to effect you in any way. And if it does, you have bigger problems already.

If you put the blog up I say you suffer the consequences of it being at the mercy of those who are willing to leave comments. That being said, those commnets should not be personal attacks. I say if you seriously have issue with someone's blog, take it to private messages.\r \r Nice work English.

When you blog, you put it out there for opinions. Whether you like them or not. I have had my share of negative comments, but I would never delete a blog just because of that. I would consider that pretty disrespectful.

Another good observation. I think that a blog and all of its comments - good or bad are the complete work. Blogging is incompete if it's not interactive. If someone is looking for a space to keep their own thoughts and they don't want other scommenting, they should keep a diary. If you're going to blog for hundreds of people and put yourself out there...Then you have to deal with the disagreement that comes your way.

Respect - It's not just a R&B anthem. Seriously, if someone has the guts to put themselves out in the intertubes, let them be unless they personnally attack you. If you disagree, do so politely and as discretely as possible.\r \r BTW - Great blogging, man, are you taking a class for that, too?

English - I think people should try to disagree politely. I don't know how to disagree discretely...But regardless, there are a lot of people that take disagreement period as disrespect.

Even if I disagree with someone's blog I won't leave a comment, it's your blog. \r The public forum is another matter.
