Unwanted blog guests
I promised I'd blog a couple of times today -- mainly because I've had a couple of blog related thoughts swirling in my head that I'd like to get some other folks' perspective on.
In my opinion, when you blog, you're putting a piece of yourself out in the public domain. You're giving people an opportunity to get know you better. It's entirely possible that people may not like what they see when they get to know you better. They may disagree with you and they may comment on your blog accordingly. Certainly, there are sites where blogs around politics, religion, and even gaming are authored specifically to illicit polarized responses.
I've seen a number of blogs on this site that have created debates within the comments. Some bloggers on this site seem to consider their blog and the related comments to be their personal space and thus sacrosanct. I've seen people delete their entire blog because they didn't like a comment someone posted.
I, myself, am a little torn on the issue. On the one hand, I feel like at 2o2p, we are one little community and a blog should be a safe zone where people don't pop into your blog and insult or harass you (especially if the content of your blog is not inflammatory). On the other hand, I do feel that the moment you post a blog, your blog space is now in the public domain and you have to accept the consequences of that.
What do you all think?
