Right now I'm sure certain readers are yelling at the screen saying no it doesn't! it permits big business and callous individuals to grind the unfortunate under it's "greedy" boot heel. Granted , that's what happens in some cases but more often than not captialism and free market ideals will provide aid from sources where none would normally be forcoming. Let me give you a personal example:
Darfur. In a nut shell the Darfur region of Africa has been proclaimed to be in a crisis situation that is in great need of humanitarian, monetary & even military aid. It's basically just a mess of disease, killing and just about any other type of misery one can come up with. Not a day goes by without some sort of outcry from celebrities and major organizations such as Amensty International demanding immediate world action and requests for donations from the public to save Darfur and the imperiled people of the region.
Now I'm basically a selfish prick and couldn't care less about the ongoing troubles in Darfur. It's of no personal threat to me or my existence. It's not even really a threat to national security. As far as I'm concerned if everyone in Darfur wants to destroy each other, go ahead have a good time but I'll spend my money on Iron City Beer instead of donating to the cause.
Now with that being said I actually have donated to the Darfur relief fund thanks to my old pal capitalism. Amnesty International just released a CD call Instant Karma: The Songs of John Lennon for Darfur relief. Now I'm a big fan of some of the bands on the CD and I love to collect cover versions so I made a trip to the nearby Best Buy and forked out 20 dollars to buy the CD. Supposedly the proceeds go to help Darfur. I don't care if they do or if the money goes to buying hookers and cocaine, either way I have my 2 CD set. So if it weren't capitalism the Darfur fund would be out 20 bucks.
Lyric of the Day If you have the money for a rehab cure, you don't have a problem you can't afford
