Fired may be a little much. Reprimanded for sure. Not sure what she was thinking but not sure it warranted a firing. Heard something similar recently at an Eagles practice. Somebody was wearing a McNabb Eagles jersey and was made to leave.

Just read that. I don't think it's wrong for her to be fired, maybe a little "douchey", as Petrino can be a douche. Arkansas is a me-too in a league of giants. A bit of "little brother" mentality going on there. It's a harsh reaction, but very much in a gray area. If Petrino hadn't gotten all indignant with her, it probably would have slid. If she had shown up wearing a Vandy, Ole Miss, Auburn, Mississippi State (yea! I spelled it right!), Kentucky, or UGA hat, she probably wouldn't have been fired. In SEC terms though, football is king and if you're a beat reporter for the home team, you need to have a "homer" presentation when on the job. A few years ago, at the Iron Bowl, an Alabama cheerleader was interviewed. He went on national tv, disgracing the school by saying that his heart was at API. I believe he lost his scholarship by the following Monday, rightly so.

fired? no. totally bitched out? yes. maybe given the really "shit" assignments for a couple of weeks? yeah. ya gotta admit, living in the SEC South, working on a sports-beat, she SHOULD have known better. wear your lameass gator gear on your own time, not when you're repping/covering another institution who is in competition with your alma mater. it was a stupid thing to do, but firing is too heavy-handed a reaction - even in the SEC.
