Shared on Sun, 12/17/2006 - 16:22My quest for a pink DS ended in frustration this morning. Friday my wife went Christmas shopping and stopped by EB Games. While she was there they unloaded a case from Nintendo containing some Wii's and pink DS's. She asked about the pink DS and one of the employees and the manager said they would not be available for purchase until Sunday morning (only place in town doing this with a DS, everybody else was selling as they received them -my wife thought she had lucked out). She asked if it was worth coming out on Sunday morning and was told not for a Wii (they only received 5 but we didn't want it anyway) but yes for the pink DS. Well this morning I visited and I guess you even have to "camp" for a DS. Of course that's fine (I wouldn't do it) but the way the sales went down was actually pretty frustrating.
I was behind the "Wii campers" and two other sets of people. I could see the pink DS boxes on the floor behind the counter - 3 available. One Wii camping middle aged lady took her Wii and said "those look cute, I'll take one." One DS down (a $130.00 item is quite an impulse buy and my silly grocery store is settling for pawning gum and candy!)
Next group of people: "All out of Wii's, right?"
"Yes"
"Thought so, we're here for a black DS"
"Sorry, all out, just pink and white."
Mom to teenage Son :"Well?"
Teenage Son: "Just get the pink, let's try to sell it on e-bay"
Second DS gone.
I ask the grandparents in front of me what they are buying.
"Pink DS"
Strike Three - I'm out!
Being beat out by some dedicated campers doesn't bother me. The impulse buy and impromptu e-bay entrepreneurs were a little disappointing. I guess there's always birthday time next year!
