Oh, what a night, late December back in '63.

OK, that little snippet just popped in my head, but it was a late night yesterday, or rather a long day.  Work has ramped up to the point that the phrase, "When it rains, it pours" just doesn't quite fit.  More like Flash flood warnings.  Yet, when things are slow, I'm in drought mode.

Anyway, I work from 6 am-ish until 4pm. Then I have class (one day a week) until 5:30.  Well, yesterday, I had some things that needed to be started for work, so I headed out to the location, got the information I needed and went home.  It's 6pm.  I need to be on the road as quickly as possible.  I get packed and back on the road at 6:30 and don't arrive at my destination until 10pm.  I'm whipped.

It's interesting what a person thinks about as they travel at night in the midwest.  The interstates aren't very busy, the wind is blowing from the south and I feel it pushing my car.  Every once in awhile a long dry weed tumbles across the road moving north.  The road has just been refinished with black asphalt and provides a nice contrast to the light brown color of the weeds.  I see a lone rodent of the mouse size booking it to the south against the wind.  Man, that little bugger can move.

The moon is hazy from the light thin clouds moving across the dark sky.  I really need to keep my eyes on the road for wayward deer wanting to occupy my space as they travel across.  Thankfully, I don't encounter any.  As I head west, I remember a phrase from a book I read in high school.  "Go West, young man."  I don't remember the book, but the meaning was that the movement west indicated the quest for knowledge.  This book took place in the early 1800's as the US west was being settled and people were moving out past the Mississippi.

My hands are in the 2 and 10 positions on the steering wheel.  Or is it 4 and 8 now?  Heh, okay just the left hand at 12.  Another phrase I remember from high school runs through my head from drivers education.  Always keep your hands on the outside of the wheel as you turn and you will have better control in case something should happen.

Oh, cool, an owl just flew in front of my car.  How do I know?  It was bigger than the red-tailed hawks that are common in this part of the country and they don't usually hunt in the day time.  Now, I'm following a cattle truck and it is picking up and throwing stones in my direction.  Must pass.  I'm on a two lane highway and I hate passing in the dark on a two lane.  But, all goes well.

There are more thoughts that have run across my active brain, but now, I don't remember them.  That's okay, I need to prepare for my first meeting today.  Going to be running around trying to start one project and finish up another while attending a conference call sometime in the morning.  The flood should subside tomorrow, but I'm dealing with the rush of water right now.

Now worries, it will all pass without causing damage.

No Would you rather this morning.  Might double post and send one out this afternoon .

Keep on Go!

Good post, I enjoyed the imagery and thoughts. By the way, it is now 4 and 8. If the air bag deploys with your grip up high, it can break your arm!
