I have my first horse show competition this weekend and I'm nervous. I don't feel prepared, but then I'm not suppose to, really. I'm more nervous about the fact that I'm an older woman riding with a bunch of kids). Do you think I'll stand out like a sore thumb?
Perhaps, but I'll get over it. This will be the first time I've jumped a course, in an actual arena, in an actual pattern. We leave tomorrow and will get our horses settled and then do some schooling later that night (practice in the arena). I'm going to actually be able to give my horse a bath and OMG does he need one. He was let out to "play" in the mud the other day and when I came to the barn to ride he was covered head to tail, top to bottom. In fact, there was still mud in his mane and tail that I couldn't brush. There was so much dirt that I DID get brushed off that I think I'll bring in some flower seeds to plant in his stall. Ok, not really, but it did change the color of his bedding and I still didn't get all of him brushed off.
Gaming has been put on the back burner until May. In fact, my riding will lessen as I try to get caught up with work, class and grad projects. Overwhelmed is an understatement.
So, to finish the above quote
'Yes'
'You're using coconuts!'
'What?'
'You've got two empty halves of coconuts and you're banging them together!'
'So?'”
That my friends will be my vision as I ride the arena. It should keep a smile on my face no matter what happens, as long as I leave the arena in one piece!
Would you rather
Go to a dinner that's much more snobbish, formal and fancy than you're used to
Or
One that's much rougher, cruder and earthier than you're used to?
Keep on Go!
