Shared on Fri, 03/03/2006 - 14:11Well here I am preparing for a new year on the job, updating the database and data entry templates when I come across a problem. My templates werent loading into my database. I check and recheck the code and I find no errors. After about 2 hours trying to get it to work I reluctantly call my companys help desk (by my partner’s request), set up an incident ticket and await a call back. Well while I am waiting I decide to keep working on the problem, this time starting from the beginning as though I had never made the input template or the macro to enter it. Step by step I go through it again. Run the macro and it works!!! I didn’t change a thing I did in the beginning and the code matches perfectly with my first attempt so I have absolutely no idea why it didn’t work the first time. Well rewriting these things took me at least another 2 hours and still no call from the help desk. Had I not spent the time working on it I couldve easily sat here all day wasting time doing nothing awaiting the call back since until I got this thing working there was nothing else I could do as these templates form the basis for getting the database prepared for 2006.
As per company policy we are to call help desk to do anything PC related including the installation and deletion of programs required for a project, hardware/software troubleshooting and so forth. Well, if I were dumb enough to follow that policy we would never get anything done in this office. There are only 3 of us here and I am the only IT guy on the premises but regardless I still have to contact them to get anything done?!?!
What a steaming pile of bullshit!!!
I’m not cancelling my ticket just to see how long it takes these bastards to call back. I am an hour away from leaving for the day so we’ll see if they even get to me before the weekend. I have Monday and Tuesday off to recover from my Birthday on Sunday so they can kiss my ass until I get back.
