My father's brain surgery

OK so my last blog entry was to say that my father needed brain surgery for the scar tissue on his brain.  Fast forward to this past Tuesday 1/31.  My father told me that he had to be at Sloan in NYC at 5:45.  My wife and I got up at 2:20, my mother drove them to us and then I took over into the city as my mother doesn't drive there.  We arrived at the hospital at about 5:15 a.m.  He checked in and then we waited in the waiting room for him to be called into the back to change and get his IV hooked up. Only 1 person was allowed so naturally my mother went with him.  About 20 min later they called my wife and I and said that we could go back to see him in pre-surgical.  We waited there till about 7:45 a when they took him into surgery.  Then we waited and waited and waited some more.  We received a few updates from a nurse who was providing what little information she had.  Finally about 1:00 p.m. we were told the Dr wanted to speak to us so we went into a room.  He told us that he was very pleased with the results, that everything was just scar tissue and no new tumors (thank you God!).  He told us that my father was in recovery and that we could see him shortly.  We went to see him shortly after and he was still groggy, obviously but he looked and sounded fine.  The nurse in recovery told us that they would most likely keep him there overnight which is standard according to them. Yesterday I spoke to him several times and he sounded great.  He had been moved to a regular room and had already been up and walking.  That morning he was even able to eat breakfast with his left hand!  I've spoken to him several times since and each time he sounds very good.  He told me this morning on my way into work that if he stays on this course he should be discharged tomorrow!  All in all I'm very happy with the results and I only hope and pray that things can go back to "normal" now or at least as normal as they can for someone like my dad who has cancer.  Thanks everyone for the support I really appreciate it and a special shout out to all my brothers in 2old2shoot.  You all rock!
