Nobody I talked to is working this week. My company's customer that I support is shut down. My boss and one co-worker are gone all week. There are two other people in the office today. My boss already told me to take it easy this week and not worry about putting hours in. He told me to take care of other stuff and be flexible this week.
So what do I do with this freedom? Should I go home early for lunch and fire up the Xbox360? Should I smuggle my new Nintendo DS and a copy of New Super Mario Bros., Mariokart DS, or Advance Wars DS into work? Break out the Sudoku book that's been sitting unused in my desk for the past year or so? Desktop Tower Defense all day long? Java Settlers of Catan?
Of course I am browsing 2old2play and post-whoring in the clan forum... but I do that on normal days, anyway. I need to kill extra time.
One thing I am definitely doing is taking a longer lunch and doing a little shopping. There is a perfect storm brewing: After-Christmas sales, CompUSA closing out all merchandise, and me with nothing to do at work! I may just decide to build a new PC with discounted parts at CompUSA (my current home PC is mostly 4 years old - I say "mostly" because I have added RAM, new HDD, new case, etc. over the years). I'll have to double-check online prices, but I like buying things like cases at a Brick & Mortar store - you can see what it looks like better and you can return it easily if necessary. Motherboards and Video Cards are (I think) 20% and 10% off as of last week - any more deeply discounted and I will probably end up buying something. If you have a CompUSA in your area, check out their sales as they are closing up shop forever.
So that will kill the next couple hours. Then I can come back to work and make sure I don't have any real work to do. Then probably Desktop Tower Defense for the rest of the afternoon, interspersed with 2o2p forum browsing. Now what about Thursday? And Friday?
