Well, I hadn't been there since Stryker's April LAN so I was overdue.  With my parents in town, I thought it would be a good way to start off a day of sightseeing in Indianapolis.  It was a GREAT way to start out the day.  I don't think I'll post any picture of our visit to the Indy Zoo but I thought I WOULD blog about the world's best bacon.  Inspired by a comment earlier from Grim Reaper BTB (aka WarEagleBeene aka WarBeagle).

If you've never been to OPH, you've missed out on a very important experience in life: thick-sliced, perfect, tasty bacon.  I've never found any other bacon to compare with it.  Nor have my parents... and they've had some bacon in their day.  You see, we live in the Midwest.  There are farms here that produce bacon.  There are fat people here who eat too much bacon.  We have Baconator burgers at Wendy's with 6 strips of bacon on it.  We eat bacon with our eggs, bacon with our chicken sandwiches, and bacon on our salads.  We order additional sides of bacon at breakfast, even if our meal already comes with a couple strips of bacon.  Trust me, it's huge here.

But nothing we've ever seen before, whether in restaurant or grandma's kitchen, compares to the bacon at OPH.  It's like the rest of the world's bacon is overdone sirloin and this is a succulent filet mignon.  It's like the difference between Diet Rite and regular Pepsi.  It's like comparing a '76 AMC Gremlin with a brand-new BMW 530i.  You get the picture?

Yes, the bacon is great.  It's thick, it's properly prepared, and it will set you back a few bucks.  But it's worth it.  And my parents and I all agree it is the best bacon we've ever had.  And my buttermilk pancakes with strawberries and real strawberry syrup were pretty darn good too.

So long for just a while...

I will take issue with the that being the best bacon. When I go to Amish country here, and go to one of the local restaurants, not one of the touristy ones, they have, bar none, the best bacon ever. On top of that, they have all the home-made breads and pastries you could ever imagine, and the eggs are so freaking huge and fresh that it's hard to believe they're the same food-type that I buy at the store. I'm sure OPH's bacon is good too, but I'm telling you, the food I get down in Amish land is in a category all by itself.
