Gaming addiction?

I read in my local paper today that medical personnel are trying to diagnose gaming as an addiction according to a recent study that gave them this interesting data. I'm not sure it would be an addiction. Are people who quilt everyday all day addicted? Well, the report did cite one individual who said he would contort himself painfully so he would not have to stop to use the restroom. I love gaming as much as the next Joe, but come on, unplug for potty breaks at the least. It was interesting, if nothing else. I guess it's something to look out for.

It's an interesting case, but could you go so far as to call it addicted, by the definition of the word? Does your body go through a period of withdrawal when not playing? I know I've played games that I've played constantly, and many of you have also probably had those game dreams, where you incorporate aspects of the game into your dreams. Once you are diagnosed as addicted though, you are eligible for certain state and federal programs to help you. Does gaming addiction go that far? I don't know. I'm just presenting an alternate side.

I think it could be a possible. When I first started playing EQ I would play for 20 hours straight at times. I would skip meals, not sleep, and cancel real life events. I called in sick to work on more then one occassion to play. I would quit the game and then rebuy it because I was so drawn to play it. When I played EQ I was for sure addicted to it.
