Can you go back?

Specifically, can you enjoy older games once you've had a run at the latest graphics, action and storylines?
After completing Assassin's Creed I decided to take a stab at some of the previous games in the stealth genre. I rented Hitman: Blood Money. I knew the graphics weren't going to match up but I suspended my conscious and got started. Into the second mission I realized that I wasn't having much fun. The controls were a bit inconsistent and awkward. It's hard to move beyond the graphics when you've had a steady diet of "this years" games and the story didn't pull me in. It's out of character for me not to push forward for the achieves, but I simply couldn't do it.

47's on his way to Gamefly and I believe Mass Effect is next in the queue.

I have no problems at all going back to the SNES era of games. (And a bunch of DS titles actually play and look similar to the SNES era too). That was my fav system of all time - and I still really enjoy playing things like A Link to the Past and Super Mario World. But, going back to older 3D games usually does suck. They look like ass, and to make things worse, they control like a piece of shit.

wasn't a fan of the Hitman games....graphics alone do not a good game make. Controls & gameplay mean more to me. Which is why I do go back to alot of older games. I'm all about my Dreamcast and SNES. Its goodness in a cup.

Yep. I just put "Lost Planet: Extreme Condition" back in the gamefly envelope after just three early levels. Sucks ass. bad controls, the constant push forward or freeze to death theme is lame. what if I want to stop and look around a bit? There is no achievement for suffering through bad design... Orange Box just arrived, on to better things.
