College Football Ends?

Well, the games end, so now we are on to recruiting. This year has seen a lot of parody, the word du jour in college football, and in my opinion this was a great season for players and fans alike. The year came to a close last night with the dominant LSU win over Ohio State. This is the second year in a row that Ohio State has lost in the title game...last season to Florida...and the second consecutive year that the SEC Champion has prevailed over the Big 10 Champion. OSU drops to 0-9 vs. SEC teams in Bowl games. Ouch.

Because of the crazy season, a lot of fans are calling for some type of playoff. I wouldn't mind seeing that as well. When you read the press, most university presidents are warming to the concept except those from the Big 10 and Pac 10 conferences. I wonder why? Neither the Pac 10 nor the Big 10 have a conference championship...which I think all conferences should have. The bowl tie-ins present another obstacle since both of these conferences are connected to the Rose Bowl. But what is the real reason? Ohio State has at least seen the opportunity to play in the title game for the last two years. Even thought they were seriously outmatched each time, they made it to the game. My theory is that a playoff might not be good for teams without a conference championship. Look back at last seasons polls and records. I believe if college football were in a playoff system last year the two teams in the title game are LSU and Florida. Whoa. Two SEC teams? You better believe it. Vegas does. Move into this year with a playoff system and who's in the title game? That's right...LSU and Georgia. Two SEC teams again? Absolutely. The argument is solid. Are those scenarios good for college football? Even as an SEC fan (Roll Tide) I don't believe it is. So, be careful what you ask for fans of a playoff. We can decide the game on the field, but you may not like it.

Playoffs are the answer and will be the future. Those stubborn headed NCAA fools just don't admit it. This year has proven once again that the BCS doesn't work. And bowls games just pairs up matches that nobody wants to see. Everyone wanted Georgia against USC in the Rose Bowl. Also the SEC final was pure bullshit. Everyone knows that Georgia deserved to be there instead of Tennessee. Don't forget Doscon that Florida got their asses handed by a Big 10 team; Michigan.

Sure, Florida and Arkansas both lost their bowl games. The SEC is still the dominant conference in college football with 9 teams in bowl games and a record of 7-2.

The BCS sucks big time! Look at how good the NCAA basketball tourney is. By the time you get to the final four, the teams that are there deserve it and the games are awesome. This bowl season was so damn boring after an exciting regular season. There is a lot of potential for a better playoff system or a +1. I hope they figure it out, because I can't take the damn BCS any more!

I'd settle for a 4-team playoff. An 8-team would be ideal, but nothing more. I'm not certain a +1 will accomplish much.
