What figures and personalities come to mind? ...Michael Jordan? ...Lance Armstrong?...Jimi Hendrix? ...Michelangelo?
Milton Glaser is such a person. I was first influenced by Glaser's work when I was too young to notice or even care, where, in the form of a gift, I received a simple t-shirt with three letters and a heart - I (heart) NY. I wore it. The shirt was white. The heart was red and the letters were black. We now know that this is the most powerful color combination for recognition. Glaser created this simple masterpiece as a tourism campaign for NYC in '73. The logo is still in use (that's longevity) and is continuously ripped off (flattery perhaps). In the aftermath of Sept. 11, 01, Glaser updated the look. However, I really discovered Glaser's work through music. I'm a Dylan fan and Glaser created what is by far the most popular image of Dylan to date. It's not an understatement to say that this image defined a generation. Milton Glaser - a Master of Design...a writer, a philanthropist, an icon and a notable influence on my career.
Here is Glaser's work mentioned above:
"Computers are to design as microwaves are to cooking."
