When I went to school I was taught that masculine was generic when no gender was specified (and that a he/she was a tranny.) Now-a-days if you use "he" or "him" you are a sexist pig. I admit I am lazy, "he" is 2 letters and much easier to write than "he, she, or gender insecure" every time. I recognize that the male influence on out history has been unhealthy and repressive, and I dont think that it is getting any better but I also dont think that changing the pronouns in language is going to help.
Walgreens Pharmacy, for example, does a lot of in-house training via computer-based courses. I had to sit through several hours of the newest ones recently and every pronoun was she, her etc. Now if you want to get really specific, we all have a feminine side, biologically speaking, we all start as a female fetus, (until that Y chromosome causes the testosterone surge and fixes it ) bit I doubt that this is the reason for the pronoun change.
I know that society has issues and testosterone is probobly responsible for many, if not most, of them but I dont really think that the use of PC pronouns is going to fix the world.
