MLG Blog: This is the End

It is done.

We lasted until, what, 1:30 or so?

First round we played some MoB team that played in the pro bracket in NY last year. Ugly. They didn’t beat us like Str8 did, but it was a fair imitation.

Not only did we get beaten, but we had to play at station 2, one of the ones up front that they show on the big screens.

The second round (first round of the losers bracket), we again had to play up front, station 2. Saved us from having to make new profiles. The other team wasn’t around, so we screwed around shooting each other.

Apparently, they broadcast even that over MLG VoD, so Fire and others watched (and listened) us beating up on each other. So did most of the hall, actually. Sad, probably.

Our third match went much better – we actually had a flag cap on CTF Middy – but we still lost. These kids have the firing angles down. And I think they’re all used to playing split screen.

But it’s not really the split screen that bothered me. Sure, it sucks. But it was the lack of sound. I think I mentioned that before.

You can’t hear your HUD bleeping at you. You have to actually look over and see it. That bleep could be you, the guy on the other half of the screen, or the kids on the TV next to yours.

Here’s the long and short of it. We got our asses kicked. We had a good time, but really didn’t get to play that much. Saw a bunch of pros walking around. Saw what it’s like to play for “real.” It was a good experience. I wouldn’t prepare the same way should we decide to do it again. Need to spend a lot more time Lanning.

Ah well. We came, we tried, we got our butts kicked, left and went to drink margaritas at Gloria’s Mexican restaurant.

We’re now chillin’ at Bmp’s house. Eks wants me to me to put something in here about how most of the Timmies were reasonably behaved and even gracious in victory. Although, one of those MoB punks shot me one of those “looks” and I thought for a moment about what it’d feel like to toss his 98-pound-ass over the row of televisions.

Eks, by the way, is laying here on an air mattress trying to take a nap. Cause, you know, we old people have to take naps. Smoke is sitting at the other computer reading my previous blog entry. He’s laughing, which is nice.

Caligula, Bmp, Soup and Malice are in the living room playing Halo.
