I'm Back! (knock on wood)

It has been two months but I think I have finally kicked the knee and hip problem. Sure did take longer than I had hoped. I have been going through physical therapy about twice week for the past eight weeks. They worked mostly on the tibial band in my left leg. A specialist also evaluated my running mechanics. The specialist suggested my last pair of shoes may have provided more lateral support than I needed. I require more medial support and stability she says so last weekend I purchased me new pair of shoes and so far I feel it is making a difference. At least I'm not experiencing any pain.

Unfortunatley I've already missed one Triathlon event but I'm gunning for the second, the Topeka Tinman on Saturday June 14th.

Short Course Triathlon
Swim: 300 Yards
Bike: 8.24 Miles
Run: 5 Kilometers

It’s a short short course. Probably a good thing for me coming off injury. Luckily I was able to continue biking and swimming while not able to run. So the first two legs of the race I'm not worried about. I just don’t know what shape I'm going to be in for that 5K run.

what shoes were you running on and...what shoes did you buy. I use to sell all kinds of athletic shoes...Just curious.

Man, a triathlon is on my short list of things I want to do. I ran and swam in high school and a little bit in college. That short course sounds more than doable. What is a mediocre time for each stage?

Ibsutke - I bought 2007 Nike Aleris. I cant remember what the others were and I already threw them out. They were Nike brand, yellow and white. Had extra lateral and medial support in them. Prior to those I would run in Nike Pegasus. So I probably should have stuck with the Pegasus last year. I also have a pair of Nike Zoom's that are light weight, no stability, to race in. I also haver a pair of Nike Free's that I used for my Triathlons, before I got bike shoes and pedals.

Mandingo - The norm for Short course is 1/4mi swim, 11mi bike, and 5K run. Its certainlty doable on just a 2-3 hours training a few days a week. Depending on the course, an average person can finish it under 1.5 hrs taking their time. For each stage. probably 7-10min on the swim. 30-45min on the bike. and 25-30min on the run. There is usually 3-4 hours given to complete the event. You can take your time in transition as well. The only leg of the race you can stop when you get tired is the swim, unless you got a buoy you can hang on to. lol.
