I feel a lot like you. There are a decent sized knot of competitive folk out there that either fell off the face of the map or are floating around like flotsam, looking for the next game to play. When Halo was out EVERYONE was playing it. When Call Of Duty hit, everyone was playing it. It was like that until fatigue set in for various reasons. I think I'm done with the Call Of Duty series until I see that the connections are better. Is it really that much to ask for for connections as good as the ones in Halo: Reach or Modern Warfare 1, 2, or World At War? Apparently, it is. To me, that's one of the thing killing off the brand, aside from constant release fatigue. That leaves gamers like me in a lurch, because we're not going over to Battlefield. I flirted briefly with the idea, but realized it was a horrible one because I don't like vehicles, and I don't need to see more camping. I greatly prefer getting my kills because of my skill or getting killed because I got outplayed. I'd hate it if I got killed by lesser players because they were in a tank. Hell, random grenades, noob tubes, and rocket launchers are annoying enough in Call Of Duty.
BF3 all the way.
Now, if they can only fix some of the issues Walla talks about and make some maps that make Rush fun to play on, it'll be an even better game.
I left Call of Duty a few revisions ago. Lag Compensation has plagued Gears of War forever so it's really not anything new to me. The puzzling thing is I think they even still do it on their dedicated servers and it drives me nuts.
Over the past few years of shooters though I have concluded that games that don't use dedicated servers aren't worth the money to buy them. Unfortunately the expense of server farms means not many games offer dedicated connections. Then there's always 'launch problems' with these games while servers are tuned . Basically if a shooter uses dedicated servers, the first week they aren't worth playing. EA has yet to launch a game on their dedicated servers without issues. Battlefield ALWAYS has launch week problems.
Overall though I totally agree. I left COD after MW2 and I have no plans on returning..
